US AID Program

Obstetric fistula is a serious health problem that affects many women worldwide, especially in developing countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 50,000 to 100,000 women worldwide suffer from obstetric fistula, although the exact number is difficult to determine due to under reporting and limited data.

As for the number of women who receive or benefit from obstetric fistula treatment, it’s estimated that:

  • Only about 10% to 20% of women with obstetric fistula receive treatment.
  • The majority of those treated are from Africa and Asia.
  • Many women lack access to healthcare services, especially in rural areas, making treatment even more challenging.
Efforts are being made to improve access to treatment and prevention strategies, such as increasing awareness, training healthcare providers, and strengthening healthcare systems.
Recent study by UNFPA and the Pakistan National Forum on Women’s Health estimates 3,500 cases of obstetric fistula occur in Pakistan every year.
MATF is aggressively looking on Fistula obstetric with US Aid, support program and took initiate in collaboration wilth US Aid to cure it as much as possible.
